Monitoring/protection/cell-balancing/authentication
The monitoring/protection/cell-balancing/authentication is responsible for protecting, monitoring, balancing and authenticating the battery pack. The data that is monitored includes individual cell voltage and pack temperature. It also implements active/passive cell balancing of each battery cell inside the battery pack. Additionally it can control the charge and discharge FET present in the battery pack.

Pre-charge/charge/discharge
The pre-charge/charge/discharge is used to provide pre-charge via and protect the battery pack from abnormalities such as overvoltage, overcurrent charging/discharging, over temperature and external short-circuit. This can be implemented by using two low voltage FETs, which are controlled by the battery analog front end or the fuel gauge/ MCU.
