Pre-charge/charge/discharge
The pre-charge/charge/discharge is used to provide pre-charge via and protect the battery pack from abnormalities such as overvoltage, overcurrent charging/discharging, overtemperature and external short-circuit. This can be implemented by using two low voltage FETs, which are controlled by the battery analog front end or the fuel gauge/ MCU.

Protection/monitoring
The Protector/Monitor/Cell-Balancing is responsible for protecting, monitoring and balancing for the battery pack. The data that is monitored includes individual cell voltage. It also implements active/passive cell balancing of each battery cell inside the battery pack. Additionally it can control the charge and discharge FET present in the battery pack.

Battery management control unit
The Battery Management Control Unit consists of a Fuel Gauge, which can communicate and control the battery charge/discharge MOSFETs. It also implements the State of Charge (SoC) and State of Health (SoH) of the battery pack and individual battery cells. This sub-system can be configured and the battery pack SoC, SoH can be monitored. Additionally it can implement a communication interface outside of the battery-pack for status monitoring and indication purposes.
