Monitoring/protection/cell-balancing

The monitoring/protection/cell-balancing/authentication is responsible for protecting, monitoring, balancing and authenticating the battery pack. The data that is monitored includes individual cell voltage. It also implements active/passive cell balancing of each battery cell inside the battery pack. Additionally it can control the charge and discharge FET present in the battery pack.

Battery management control unit

The Battery Management Control Unit consists of a host MCU, which can communicate and configure the battery analog front end. It also implements the State of Charge (SoC) and State of Health (SoH) monitoring of the battery pack. This sub-system can be configured and the battery pack SoC, SoH can be monitored using a host MCU. Additionally it can implement a communication interface outside of the battery-pack for status monitoring and indication purposes.

Current & temperature sensing

The Current & Temperature Sensing subsystem consists of opamps, comparators and temperature sensors, which continuously monitor the battery pack temperature and charging/discharging current. The current and temperature information is sent to MCU, AFE or fuel gauge to monitor the battery pack SoC and SoH.

Pre-charge/charge/discharge

The pre-charge/charge/discharge is used to provide pre-charge via and protect the battery pack from abnormalities such as overvoltage, overcurrent charging/discharging, overtemperature and external short-circuit. This can be implemented by using two low voltage FETs, which are controlled by the battery analog front end or the fuel gauge/ MCU.
