Non-isolated DC/DC power supply
The system can be powered from an existing wired source. A buck converter can be used if the system is powered by a 24V DC source. A load switch can be an option for designs that need additional power savings by powering off the people counting circuit when not in use.

People counting analog front end
The people counting algorithm is generally carried out by a dedicated analog front-end. A 3D time-of-flight (TOF) analog front-end can create a 3D depth map of a subject or scene by illuminating an area with modulated IR light and measuring the distance for every pixel in the sensor?s field of view. A mmWave sensor operates as an RF-based radar to give range, velocity, and angle information of objects in a scene. Programmable digital processing elements are included in the sensor that enable algorithms to count and track the path of multiple people.

Motion detection
A motion detection sensor triggers the people counting analog front-end. The analog front-end is kept in a low power mode while there is no motion for added power savings. Multiple operational amplifiers can be used to filter and amplify the output of the PIR sensor. A comparator or ADC can be used to maximize power savings by keeping the system in a low-power mode until a motion interrupt is generated.
