Microchip launches industry’s most comprehensive 800G active cable solution for generative artificial intelligence networks

Industry News 2023-11-09

【Lansheng Technology News】The rise of generative AI and AI/ML technologies has created new demands for higher-speed connections, driving back-end data center networks and applications to achieve 800G connectivity. Using active electronic cables (AEC) is currently the most effective solution, but there are many design and development hurdles that cable suppliers need to overcome.

To address this issue, Microchip Technology Inc. today announced the launch of the META-DX2C 800G retimer for dual-density quad small form-factor pluggable package (QSFP-DD) and eight-channel small form-factor pluggable package (OSFP) AEC cable products Provide an accelerated development path. The retimer is supported by a comprehensive solution for 800G AEC product development, including a hardware reference design and a complete Common Management Interface Specification (CMIS) software package to minimize development resources required by cable manufacturers.

The META-DX2C retimer uses high-performance, long-reach 112G SerDes to support transmission up to 40 dB, enabling the design of thinner and longer AECs, which is critical for dense hyperscale infrastructure construction. In addition, Microchip offers fully validated add-in card hardware reference designs and software packages for deploying CMIS software in Microchip's 32-bit PIC32 microcontrollers. Microchip's META-DX2C compact retimer also solves similar connectivity challenges in high-capacity data center switches and routers, where high densities and data rates cause signal integrity issues.
