ON Semiconductor and Renesas team up to create leading system performance and enhance the safety of semi-autonomous driving

Industry News 2023-10-31

【Lansheng Technology News】October 25, 2023 -ON Semiconductorannounced that its Hyperlux™ image sensor series has been integrated into the Renesas R-Car V4x platform to enhance the vision system of semi-autonomous driving, thereby improving the safety of the car. With a strategic focus on safety systems and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), the two companies provide leading sensor performance and advanced systems on a chip (SoC) to automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 suppliers.

Hyperlux image sensors feature a 2.1 µm pixel size, industry-leading 150dB ultra-high dynamic range (HDR) and LED flicker reduction (LFM) capabilities, and can withstand high temperatures, key elements required for automotive applications. Hyperlux image sensors combined with Renesas' flexible R-Car software platform provide automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers with advanced automotive computing technology to meet application needs such as ADAS and up to Level 3 autonomous driving.

Takeshi Fuse, functional division and business development director ofRenesas'High Performance Computing, Analog and Power Solutions Business Group, said: "ON Semiconductor is a market leader and innovator in automotive image sensor technology. Together with ON Semiconductor, we will provide customers with ultra-high-performance systems." performance, functional safety and cybersecurity, it is a wise choice. The out-of-box compatibility of ON Semiconductor's Hyperlux image sensors on the R-Car V4x platform and the continued cooperation between both parties on next-generation products prove the high quality of our products and long-term friendly cooperative relations. This is also consistent with Renesas’ core purpose of making customers’ lives easier.”

This new product portfolio builds on the strong product portfolio that Renesas and ON Semiconductor have jointly deployed in automotive applications for many years. Millions of cars on the road today use a combination of R-Car Gen2 or R-Car Gen3 and ON Semiconductor image sensors in applications such as front-facing cameras, surround view and driver monitoring systems (DMS).

Chris Adams, Vice President of ON Semiconductor's Automotive Sensing Division, said: "With its deep technical expertise in automotive applications and extensive experience in the SoC field, Renesas is uniquely positioned to develop solutions that meet customers' current and future needs. Combining Hyperlux image sensors with "The decision to integrate into Renesas' new platform demonstrates that ON Semiconductor's sensors are a critical technology enabling safety-critical ADAS and autonomous driving solutions, delivering the outstanding image quality that customers have come to expect."
