Samsung and SK Hynix continue to increase DRAM prices

Industry News 2023-11-03

【Lansheng Technology News】As the consumer electronics market gradually recovers, DRAM contract prices rebounded for the first time in more than two years in October. After memory prices rebounded, Samsung and SK Hynix continued to increase prices.

The Korea Economic Daily quoted sources as saying that the market for high-performance DRAM such as low-power memory for smartphones (LPDDR) and computer DDR is gradually growing, coupled with the reduction of DRAM inventory by digital equipment manufacturers, causing DRAM prices to begin to rise.

According to data from DRAMeXchange, the memory division of research and survey agency TrendForce, the contract price of personal computer DRAM DDR4 8Gb 2133MHz rose 15.4% in October from September to US$1.5. It was the first increase in 27 months after rising 7.89% in July 2021, and 10 The monthly increase was the largest in a single month since April 2021.

The contract price of laptop DDR5 16Gb SO-DIMM high-capacity memory modules also increased by 11.5% in October compared with September, to US$33 per unit. Smartphone DRAM contract prices have also begun to increase. TrendForce predicts that mobile DRAM contract prices will increase by 13% to 18% in the fourth quarter compared with the third quarter, NAND Flash contract prices will rise accordingly, and eMMC and UFS will increase by 10% to 15%.

Memory prices can rise for a variety of reasons, such as Samsung's production cuts and Micron's more than 20% price increase, which gives the memory industry more confidence in price increases. Demand in the second half of the year is driven by China's Huawei's new Mate 60 Pro, which has also led other Chinese smartphone brands to expand production targets.
