Nexperia partners with KYOCERA AVX Salzburg to produce 650 V silicon carbide rectifier diode modules for power applications

Industry News 2023-11-07

【Lansheng Technology News】November 6, 2023:Nexperiatoday announced a partnership with KYOCERA AVX Components (Salzburg) GmbH, an internationally renowned supplier of advanced electronic devices, to jointly produce new 650 V, 20 A silicon carbide (SiC) Rectifier module for high-frequency power applications in power stack designs from 3 kW to 11 kW to meet the needs of applications such as industrial power supplies, EV charging stations and onboard chargers. This launch will further deepen the long-standing close cooperative relationship between the two parties.

A key requirement for manufacturers for next-generation power applications is space savings and weight reduction. The small size of this new SiC rectifier diode module reduces the space required on the circuit board, helping to maximize power density and reduce overall system cost. Thermal performance is optimized through the combined use of Top Cooling (TSC) and Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) sensors, which monitor device temperature and provide real-time feedback for device or system-level predictions and diagnostics. The rectifier diode module is packaged in a low-inductance package for high-frequency operation and is proven to operate at junction temperatures up to 175°C.

Katrin Feurle, senior director ofNexperia’sSiC product division, said: “In this collaboration, Nexperia and KYOCERA AVX combine cutting-edge silicon carbide semiconductors with best-in-class module packaging technology, which will enable Nexperia to better meet the market demand for extremely high power densities. demand for power electronic products. The release of this rectifier diode module is the first step towards long-term cooperation between Nexperia and KYOCERA AVX on SiC."

Thomas Rinschede, Vice President of Sensing and Control at KYOCERA AVX Components, said: "We are pleased to further deepen our successful partnership with Nexperia to produce silicon carbide modules for power electronics applications. Nexperia's expertise in manufacturing combined with KYOCERA's expertise in modules Our expertise creates irresistible products for customers looking for higher power density and wanting to use wide bandgap semiconductor technology.”

Nexperia expects to provide samples of the new SiC rectifier diode modules in the first quarter of 2024.
