Intel and Verizon demonstrate industry-leading vRAN solution

Industry News 2023-11-14

【Lansheng Technology News】Recently, Intel and Verizon completed the industry’s first data session based on Samsung vRAN solution. The solution is built on 4th generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors with integrated Intel® vRAN Boost.

Verizon, one of the world's leading providers of technology and communications services, achieved significant energy efficiency improvements through testing using Samsung's vRAN solution, built on 4th Generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors with integrated Intel® vRAN Boost , handling higher workloads with improved throughput performance.

At the 2023 Mobile World Congress (MWC 2023), Intel released the fourth-generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processor with integrated Intel® vRAN Boost for the first time. The processor is designed to drive high-performance, energy-efficient virtual radio access networks. By integrating vRAN acceleration capabilities directly into the CPU, Intel eliminates the need for external accelerator cards, which is unprecedented in the vRAN market. This new processor integrates powerful features to optimize workload performance for packet and signal processing, dynamic power management, and integrated acceleration of AI and machine learning applications.

Dan Rodriguez, corporate vice president and general manager of Intel's Network and Edge Solutions Group, said: "We have a long history of innovations aimed at transforming 5G networks, such as differentiated innovations for Xeon processors, including integrated vRAN acceleration. functions, etc., which fully demonstrates the advantages of large-scale virtualization. We are working with industry leader Verizon and other ecological partners to jointly build an unprecedented high-performance, energy-efficient wireless access network, so that it can provide customers with better experience.”

When Intel Xeon processors are paired with Intel® Ethernet 800 Series Controllers, Intel's portfolio can help realize the power of open vRAN solutions, such as more optimized network timing and synchronization.
