Renesas’ new ultra-high-performance product, the industry’s first MCU based on Arm Cortex-M85 processor

Industry News 2023-10-31

【Lansheng Technology News】On October 31, 2023,Renesas Electronicstoday announced the launch of the powerful RA8 series MCU, which has a breakthrough 3000 CoreMark and can meet the complete determinism, low latency and real-time operation requirements required by customer applications.

The RA8 series MCUs are also the industry's first to feature the Arm® Cortex®-M85 processor, delivering exceptional 6.39 CoreMark/MHz (Note) performance - a level of performance that will enable system designers to use RA MCUs in alternative applications. Commonly used microprocessor (MPU). The new series of products is part of the popular RA product family based on Arm Cortex-M processors. Additionally, existing designs built for other RA products can be easily ported to the new RA8 MCUs.

The new RA8 series MCUs deploy Arm Helium™ technology, Arm’s M-type vector expansion unit. This technology can improve the performance of digital signal processors (DSP) and machine learning (ML) by 4 times compared to MCUs based on the Arm Cortex-M7 processor. This performance increase allows customers to eliminate additional DSP in their systems for certain applications.

As a leader in edge and terminal AI,Renesasbrings advanced applications in automotive, industrial and commercial products. The new RA8 series MCU leverages Helium to accelerate neural network processing, enabling edge and terminal devices to deploy natural language processing in voice AI and implement predictive maintenance applications.
